Hi here is this weeks feature from a friends of mine who has recently started up Growing her own Organic Veg in London... Say hi to Shirley, I hope you enjoy, All the best, James :) ..............
Hello,
James asked me to write a little something about myself for you all, "why would he ask that", I hear you ask? Well, James and I met up at a seminar recently, introduced by a friend of his (the power of networking!), His friend introduced us because she heard about what I've been doing and though that you may all be interested. So what is it? Well, I grow organic vegetables in a small patch in my garden, I am now vegetable self sustaining after 1 season of growing. "That must be hard work?", totally not, I'm a full time mum and run 2 businesses from home and still have the time to grow my vegetables, why, because I've found the quick ways and tricks to low maintainance crops. I started this in spring this year because my little girl was starting to wean and needing to eat normal food, for anyone out there who has children you'll realize that once you have them you are bent on giving them the best you can, even if you've never thought about that before. So I dug out a small patch in the back of my garden and started my growing journey, (if you want to read the full story you can go here http://tinyurl.com/yddgyxo)
I wanted to grow organic, 'cos otherwise I may as well stay buying from the supermarket. Now so far you may be saying to yourself "so what!!" well, James and I were discussing raw food at this point and we ascertained that if you are eating or thinking of eating raw food, you must be interested in your health, "that fair enough?" so if you are interested in your health and eating raw food, why not grow your own produce so that you get the best seasonal crops (much better nutritional value), and you know that it is 'truly' organic, you also get so much satisfaction from getting your own produce, it's really fun :) I myself have been on a totally raw food diet before, it's amazing ! I did find it a little difficult to sustain fully though so have since moved over to 80/20 raw and whenever I want to be really healthy and energetic I go back 100%. I'm currently starting my autumn and winter crop growing, yes, you can get crops throughout the seasons, just need to know when to plant and what to plant.
