WHAT A LITTLE GEM THE CUCUMBER IS. I WILL LOOK
AT IT DIFFERENTLY NOW.

1.
Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need
every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin
B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin
B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron,
Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and
Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon,
put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a
cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B
Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that
quick pick-me-up that can last for
hours.

3.. Tired of your bathroom mirror
fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a
cucumber slice along the mirror, it will
eliminate the fog and provide a soothing,
spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and
slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few
slices in a small pie tin and your garden will
be free of pests all season long. The chemicals
in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give
off a scent undetectable to humans but drive
garden pests crazy and make them flee the
area.

5 Looking for a
fast and easy way to remove cellulite before
going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or
two of cucumbers along your problem area for a
few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber
cause the collagen in your skin to tighten,
firming up the outer layer and reducing the
visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles
too!!!

6.. Want to avoid a hangover or
terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices
before going to bed and wake up refreshed and
headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B
vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential
nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in
equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and
headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that
afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers
have been used for centuries and often used by
European trappers, traders and explores for
quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8.
Have an important meeting or job interview and
you realize that you don't have enough time to
polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber
over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a
quick and durable shine that not only looks
great but also repels
water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a
cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic
hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10.
Stressed out and don't have time for massage,
facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire
cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water,
the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber
with react with the boiling water and be
released in the steam, creating a soothing,
relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce
stress in new mothers and college students
during final exams.

11. Just finish a
business lunch and realize you don't have gum or
mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to
the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30
seconds to eliminate bad breath, the
phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your
mouth responsible for causing bad
breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to
clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?
Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the
surface you want to clean, not only will it
remove years of tarnish and bring back the
shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm
you fingers or fingernails while you
clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the
cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen
writing, also works great on crayons and markers
that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Pass this along to everybody you
know who is looking for better and safer ways to
solve life's everyday
problems..

feed from:

MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as "Natural Flavoring." MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called
"The Slow Poisoning of America".

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats."
When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cup-boards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen,Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural
Meat Tenderizer," hydrolyzed protein etc.)
But it didn't stop there.
When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant - even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's - use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender:

MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin - their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? As a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend, John Erb. In his book "The Slow Poisoning of America", he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?
"Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is
concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an
addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:

"The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity." Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT , Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

"Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats." Guimaraes RB, Telles
MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

"Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors." Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. AHypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

"Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity." Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978.
Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada . While he was sitting in the government office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff..." But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us?

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine?

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com . Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

Not sure who to credit as this has been forwarded so many times, however the author does say to resend and circulate, do here I go:)
feed from:

When I say almost, it means that Summer over in the UK is almost here!

They are very easy to make.

Take vegetables such as carrots, peppers, cucumber, mushrooms, avocado and cabbage leaves (or romaine or large lettuce leaves). The leaves are for rolling up the filling instead of the typical Vietnamese style summer rolls that are made up with white rice – which is not that healthy!

Chop up the vegetables into juliene style sticks. I also added some pineapple which made it even yummier. Basically there are so many things you can put in these, its really down to your own imagination.

When you are done, take a leaf and and place a few sticks of each vegetable and roll up, then dip into sauce.

You can either make a guacamole, sweet chili sauce, braggs or soy sauce. Whatever you like really!

This is a recipe that is very inexpensive to make and doesnt take more than five minutes.

Give it a try, I bet you will love it!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iuC0SNze3rE/S3HvodLa_pI/AAAAAAAAAEk/65v3XjPdLTU/s320/pic.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436389703519239826" />
feed from:James Alexander at the UK RAW FOOD NETWORK....
.
feed from:

For years, the government and the NHS have been telling us that we have to eat “five fruits and vegetables a day” for good health, which is very true. What they don’t tell you however, is that this is the MINIMUM amount our body needs!

Fruits and vegetables are absolutely essential for a healthy lifestyle but yet there’s evidence that people are not eating enough of it in their diet. A good question would be “why?” I believe the answer is strongly related to the fact that people don’t really know what to do with a bunch of kale leaves, spinach and carrots! I speak from experience because before I became a raw food chef, I was in the same position – I only ate vegetables for Sunday dinner and on Christmas days. A few years ago however, I discovered the world of raw living foods (fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds) and as I came to understand in my journey to health the variety of things I could do with these previously ignored food species, I was totally amazed!

I have since discovered that it’s all about creativity and this is especially important when dealing with children. I have gone into schools to talk to children and young people about health and demo some of our fruit and vegetable goodies and the response has been fantastic each time.

I have learnt some tips along the way on how to get more fruits and vegetables into kids, which I’ll share with you here.

1) No pressure!

I’ve come to understand that the reason why most adults (myself included!) grow up not liking fruits and vegetables much is because we were forced to eat them as children so they became “the enemy”. It’s so much better to present healthy food to children as a nice option as opposed to a command – “Would you like…?” sounds a whole lot more appealing than “You must eat”!

2) Preparation

It would be helpful to have fruit snacks around the house so that children can become accustomed to snacking on fruit when they feel peckish, as opposed to a packet of crisps or a bar of chocolate. In most cases (especially with the younger ones), children will eat what you prepare for them so instead of giving them £2 to spend at the sweet shop at school, why not give them £1 and put some fresh or dried fruit in their lunchbox also? Even better, you can learn some basic fresh smoothie recipes (see below) and create a ritual whereby you give this to them as soon as they get back from school – this will certainly get them running home!

3) Affirmation & education

Children need affirmation and encouragement so each time your child eats a piece of fruit or vegetable, be sure to encourage and affirm them. You can also educate them about the health benefits of what they eating and tell them about their favourite sports or TV star who has the same thing. It may not be cool to eat fruit in school so at the very least, what this will do is give them a wise answer in the playground if they are questioned by their friends: “David Beckham eats bananas at half time which is why he’s the best footballer in the world and so am I!”

4) Be creative / make it tasty

There are so many recipes and so many varieties of fruits and vegetables that you can be as creative as you like! It’s also a great idea to prepare TASTY healthy meals with your kids – it’s a good way to start to break the negative associations fruits and vegetables can have. There’s so much more you can do with a banana than just open and eat it! Get adventurous with your food preparation and remember always start with the fruit you know they like and then ease them into other types and introduce the vegetables gently. Ask your child to choose the fruits and vegetables he wants to put in and maybe have a little game where he makes you one and you make him one. Use this time as bonding time and it will stick for life.

5) Be the change

Finally, be the change you want to see in your kids – if you don’t eat it, chances are they will not! More often than not, children do what they see as opposed to what you say so lead by example.

Here are a few recipes to help you get started:

Sweet Treat Juice
1 Mango
2 Apples
1 Kiwi
½ lime or lemon

Method: Blend all ingredients in a blender

Juicing is a great way to get fruits in and if you’re smart, you can sneak in a cucumber into this recipe and they won’t even know. You don’t have to have the Sweet Treat everyday however as too much sugar in any form is not good.

Green Smoothie
2 bananas
A handful of spinach
4 ice cubes

Method: Blend all ingredients in a blender

This is a great way to get greens into the diet and they will never even know! Rotate the greens and the fruit for variety – you may want to try mango as a base or mango and banana and a different green (kale is a good alternative). Kids love smoothies so be creative!

Banana ice cream
3-4 frozen bananas
Apple juice (to soak the bananas in to defrost slightly)
Honey or Agave Nectar to sweeten

Method: Use a hand blender to blend the ingredients until it turns to ice cream

Dried or dehydrated fruit

Dried fruit can easily replace sweets and you can buy these from your local health food store or dehydrate them at home. A dehydrator is a great investment when introducing healthy sweets into your child’s diet. A dehydrator sucks the moisture out of food while keeping the enzymes in. If you don’t have one you can use your oven: slice some pineapples, mangos, bananas or any other fruit of your choice and place on a greaseproof tray in your oven. Set the oven to 115F and place a cloth between the oven door so that it is not fully closed – make sure you do this in an area away from the kids where it is safe. If you get really adventurous you can slice some apples and soak them in lime juice before dehydrating for six hours or until dried. This is delicious and tastes just like sweets!

The above recipes are just a snippet of what’s available on a raw living food diet – there’s literally hundreds more which are excellent for children and adults. I believe learning the amazing delights this ‘world’ holds is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your kids. I hope this has been helpful.

You can find out more about me and Raw Love UK by visiting www.rawloveuk.com, emailing info@rawloveuk.com or by calling 020 7207 2814 / 07984 211 819.

Raw Love UK - Love life, Love health: Eat raw!
www.rawloveuk.com
Raw food is amazing for your health - we make it delicious to your taste buds!
feed from:

Well, James and I met up at a seminar recently, introduced by a friend of his (the power of networking!), His friend introduced us because she heard about what I've been doing and though that you may all be interested. So what is it? Well, I grow organic vegetables in a small patch in my garden, I am now vegetable self sustaining after 1 season of growing. "That must be hard work?", totally not, I'm a full time mum and run 2 businesses from home and still have the time to grow my vegetables, why, because I've found the quick ways and tricks to low maintainance crops. I started this in spring this year because my little girl was starting to wean and needing to eat normal food, for anyone out there who has children you'll realize that once you have them you are bent on giving them the best you can, even if you've never thought about that before. So I dug out a small patch in the back of my garden and started my growing journey, (if you want to read the full story you can go here http://tinyurl.com/yddgyxo)

I wanted to grow organic, 'cos otherwise I may as well stay buying from the supermarket. Now so far you may be saying to yourself "so what!!" well, James and I were discussing raw food at this point and we ascertained that if you are eating or thinking of eating raw food, you must be interested in your health, "that fair enough?" so if you are interested in your health and eating raw food, why not grow your own produce so that you get the best seasonal crops (much better nutritional value), and you know that it is 'truly' organic, you also get so much satisfaction from getting your own produce, it's really fun :) I myself have been on a totally raw food diet before, it's amazing ! I did find it a little difficult to sustain fully though so have since moved over to 80/20 raw and whenever I want to be really healthy and energetic I go back 100%. I'm currently starting my autumn and winter crop growing, yes, you can get crops throughout the seasons, just need to know when to plant and what to plant. (have a look at my website for more information - http://tinyurl.com/yddgyxo)

For those of you who want to learn a little more about me you can go to my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Mrsshirleyjoffe

I hope to be speaking to you all soon and thanks James for all your great information about raw food.

To You All Organically,

Shirley

Do You Want To Learn An Easy And Quick Way To Grow Your Own Organic Vegetables?

Hey add me to your facebook friends http://www.facebook.com/shirlsjoffe

and follow me on twitter - http://twitter.com/shirleyjoffe

Lastly, you can subscribe to my YouTube channel and pick up some great F.ree videos http://www.youtube.com/user/Mrsshirleyjoffe

feed from:
